Socioeconomic levels influence the rates of morbidity and premature mortality

New study published by The Lancet warns that low socioeconomic levels directly influence the rates of morbidity and premature mortality in the world.

Using data from more than 1.7 million individuals in 48 independent cohort studies from seven countries, research reveals that: “The independent association between socioeconomic status and mortality is comparable in strength and consistency to those of six risk factors 25 × 25 (tobacco use, alcohol, insufficient physical activity, increased blood pressure, obesity and diabetes). In addition, the study considers it essential to include health strategies, policies and surveillance to address health risk factors.
